A Bold Whole-Home Transformation in the Heart of James Island

Originally built in 1987, this James Island residence had all the hallmarks of its era—green carpeting, laminate countertops, and contractor-grade finishes. When new homeowner Christina relocated from Charlotte, NC, she saw an opportunity to reimagine the home’s potential from top to bottom. She partnered with Icon Construction to complete a full-scale renovation—modernizing every square inch of the property while preserving and enhancing its coastal charm. See Christina’s full review of her experience, complete with her before and after photos.

Top-to-Bottom Interior and Exterior Renovation

The scope of the remodel included every room in the house, as well as key exterior upgrades. Outdated bathrooms with sliding frosted shower doors were completely reworked with clean, modern tile, brass fixtures, and bold lighting choices. The kitchen received a striking update with sleek black cabinetry, leathered Avocatus quartzite countertops, and matte gold hardware—marrying luxury and function.

Other Highlights Include:

  • A new screened-in back porch to extend livable space outdoors along with a covered front entryway
  • Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring on the back porch for a durable foundation
  • Engineered wood flooring throughout the interior of the home
  • Custom tile-work and modern plumbing fixtures in all bathrooms
  • Upgraded siding and exterior paint for a refreshed curb appeal
  • Designer touches and finishes found by Christina and her mother, many sourced from Floor & Decor

Challenges and Timeline

The renovation began shortly after Christina purchased the home, and she moved in before final completion—a strategic decision that allowed work to continue while she settled in. The remodel was completed over the course of approximately five months with minor delays related to, of all things, the snow storm we had in South Carolina, and a few minor permitting items.

A Modern Coastal Retreat

What was once a dated home now feels entirely reimagined—light-filled, cohesive, and uniquely personal. Christina’s design-forward vision combined with Icon’s attention to detail resulted in a space that feels custom at every turn. From the richly veined quartzite countertops to the dark, moody cabinetry and refined trim details, this remodel stands as a showcase of what thoughtful renovation can achieve.
