The Icon Construction Philosophy

Everything considered. Nothing left out. Start living better today.

When we kick off a new project, our overarching goal is complete client satisfaction, whatever form that takes. Our team considers how you will live in your space, how it will be used, and why a feature may or may not be necessary. We want you to be able to start living better from the moment we hand back your keys.

Throughout the project, you can count on us to be transparent - sometimes maybe even a little too much. We feel like that's the only way to be. Maybe that transparency is what contributes to our maintaining relationships well beyond project closeout.

Starting with a bevy of experiences and knowledge gained over years in different construction positions since high school, a residential builders license was the logical next step for Sam Agnew, the founder of Icon Construction. Built on the premise that 'you're only as good as your name', he had no idea in 2006 how Icon Construction would grow and end up shaping his personal life (he is married to Bonni of Stone Central) and his business life. What he has always known is that it's an honor and a privilege to be chosen by a family who trusts you enough to give you their keys. No one on the team takes this trust for granted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, our team holds residential and commercial construction licenses and we are fully bonded and insured.

Why do you ask for our budget? What if I don't know?

A budget is just to ensure you {the customer} have realistic expectations for construction costs. Sometimes customers may not have any idea and we just like to know where to start our conversation with you.

Can I make changes during the construction process?

YES, you can make changes, however, there may be additional costs involved that your Project Manager will go over with you to ensure all considerations are factored in.

Do I have to move out during construction?

This only applies to remodels/additions but will depend on several factors.

  1. Can you and your family live through the noise, dust, debris, and inconvenience of being without modern conveniences (e.g., fridge, microwave, etc.)
  2. Is it necessary to move out? What does your project entail?
Icon will do its best to ensure expectations are discussed and met during the whole process and try to inconvenience you and your family as much as possible.
What happens to my belongings during construction?

This applies to a remodel or an addition. New construction scenarios are different and can be discussed as needed.

For most projects, Icon partners with the customer and a local moving/self-storage crew to pack your belongings, haul them to an environment-controlled area for safe keeping and then bring them back upon request as the project calls for your items. There is a fee for these services, see your PM for more questions.

Do I need an architect for a custom home build?

Yes, most likely you will need an architect unless you've purchased plans from another source. Online floor plans can be purchased but still require a local engineer to 'stamp' them for the building to begin. They ensure local codes are met. Should you need either or both services, we have fellow associates we work with that can help you!

How accurate is your project timeline?

Our timeline is as accurate as we can make it. We don't like giving unrealistic expectations to you, the homeowner. You need to be able to plan and adjust accordingly. There are some circumstances out of our control which we will notify you about as soon as we're made aware. Examples of this delay could be material shortages, mother nature, etc.

What kind of permitting is needed and who handles it?

Permitting is handled on an as-needed basis, but most often one of our team members handles the logistics and paperwork that goes along with those needs/requirements.

Will you help me make selections for fixtures and finishes?

We can help you as much as you'd like with your project, but we tend to lean on our supplier's specialized knowledge about specific finishes/fixtures. We can also put you in touch with several interior designers with whom we've worked with that could help you in the overall visual plan. Their fees would be separate from any construction costs.
